천사의 부름 소리라고도 한다.
실제로 화면에는 안쪽에 있는 꽃나무 그늘에
천사의 모습이 보인다.
고갱은 종교적인 테마로서 그림을 그린 것이 아니라
타히티인들의 생활모습을 표현하려한 것이다.
